TESDA RO2 Implements Pangulong Gloria Scholarship (PGS)
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) RO2 received 10,511 slots of the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship for implementation in Region 02 Calendar Year 2009. Out of the said slots, TESDA Provincial Offices got a share of 6,655 slots broken down as follows: Batanes - 119, Cagayan - 3,200, Isabela - 1,977, Nueva Vizcaya - 960 and Quirino - 379. These were distributed to all private and public training institutions with TVET registered programs.
The remaining 3,866 slots were given to seven TESDA Technology Institutions, namely: Aparri School of Arts and Trades (ASAT) with 700 slots; Lasam Institute of Technology (LIT) with 430 slots; Regional Training Center (RTC) - 450, Isabela School of Arts and Trades (ISAT) 700, Southern Isabela College of Arts and Trades (SICAT) - 700, Madela Institute of Technology (MIT) - 443, and Kasibu National Agricultural School (KNAS) - 443 slots.
The PGS has the following objectives: to produce a pool of qualified and globally competent workforce who are job-ready; to develop skills competencies of the unemployed and the underemployed through training program for pre-employment; to upgrade skills and productivity enhancement; to empower public and private Tek-Bok providers in expanding their absorptive capacities; and to enable them to offer programs for various qualifications including higher levels of technology where jobs are available in the labor market.
Moreover, the students of technical vocational education who are beneficiaries of the PGS will be provided with free training, training support fund and free competency assessment to support the job creation and job preservation of the government. As of February 25, 2009, there are 53 training institutions implementing the PGS program in the region.
